JUST TO KICK THINGS OFF:
And then I was, like, so pissed I just threw a bucket of water on her and…
NYC, November, 2014
Novembrarians:
All is well-- or at least better-- in the land of Mailchimp. The fully sanitized version of last week's post-Halloween edition got delivered. According to the data in my (not) extensive analytics dashboard, it was opened and read by most of you. Phew.
Old folks: remember how computers just seemed to "lose" things in word processing documents and spreadsheets, before the days of auto-save and the mysterious "recovery" of files? I saw plenty of people (of course including me) reduced to tears, whether in dorm rooms or office cubicles.
Now that auto-save saves our bacon every micro-second, this is a short list of computer-ish things to complain about:
problem a) the search function in Gmail sucks and you can't find any emails you ever sent. Why are they in the trash?
solution: @ericschmidt and other Googlers, I vote for resources to be diverted from "wearables" to "searchables." (p.s. the address book search function stinks, too).
problem b) the fact that Yahoo mail just totally sucks. Even though hardly anyone has it any more, it still matters.
solution: @marissamayer and other @Purplers, on your next buying spree, I vote for an acquisition of Hotmail.
problem c) the fact that AOL Mail might still be the best but old people (>30) are afraid of looking uncool. So everyone has Gmail. Which makes it not cool. Anyhow, no kids ever look at email except for school so if you're on email in the first place you're not cool.
solution: AOL & Yahoo merge and we all get on Hotmail.
Maybe another solution could be that in addition to an E-bola Czar we need an Email Czar. BTW do you know that out of all the U.S. Government appointed "Czars" there have been no women? The closest we came was Herb Allison, the TARP Czar, but I guess a name doesn't make you a Czarina.
Speaking of email: Here is part of an email from one of my children's basketball coaches:
"I'd like to be clear to all parties that they have to stay at level 1, 2 and only a little of level 3 (stepping in, raising ball) until their form is absolutely perfect. I think they will be there level wise in about 2-3 weeks. Do not let them shoot live even if they are bored to tears. All mechanics done perfectly until I see what I like."
In sports, or in learning the art of sushi this is called "discipline" or "excellence." At work, this would be called "micro-managing" or possibly "creating a hostile work environment." Just sayin'.
In other news, everyone's excited here! And by "everyone" i mean the entire staff of The LZ Sunday Paper. And my well-established readers know that means you can count the entire staff on one hand wearing a mitten.
Why are we excited? Because several planned trips to LA and/or SF had gotten postponed or cancelled for various reasons, since August, but now a combined trip is back on for this week! A good friend said, in an email, "the California drought is over! Long rain LZ!" (please, dear Lord and Rain Gods and actual people, forgive any perceived insensitivity--this person knows that the CA drought is a serious issue in real life and works tirelessly on awareness and amelioration of the real one).
The Sunday Paper readers will never be accused of micro-managing, as i trust you are just looking for me to lead a championship newsletter team! Please continue to point out broken links, inconsistent fonts, and provide general observations about our news by and about women in business, politics, digital, tech, media, music, tv, film, fashion, sports, and culture, delivered every week. And definitely have a laugh, even a micro one.
Don't forget to send any interesting stuff you think we may have missed and tell people to sign up at our website, LZSundayPaper.com.
Many of the articles and other musings that we don't have room to include in the weekend edition are tweeted out all during the week @LZSundayPaper.
See you back in NYC next week,
LZ

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ (soon to be registered trademarked and copyrighted) launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes in size high, medium, and low. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
