Friends, especially English majors, grammar buffs, and copy editors:
One observation I have this week is that copy editing is going to hell. The other alternative is that, apparently, you can't use the word "trump" without capitalizing it. Which is entirely possible.
I would understand a pun such as if this political commentator, perhaps, said she was "playing the Trump card" (haha). But to "trump" something, as in "one up" something, I think we can still own that verb.
I know, I know, it's just a mistake. Typos happen. I just think it's funny that some smart person at Media Matters had what I'm guessing is a quick mental lapse and just reflexively capitalized the word as s/he wrote the transcript for the video interview. Funny in a not haha kind of way.
In other copy editing news: many know that the New Yorker has regaled us with the value of copy editing and the importance of correct comma placement for decades. I ran this beautiful piece about it earlier this year. But just yesterday, the unthinkable happened and The New Yorker let a homonym-ous copy error/typo happen:
Egads.
I tweeted at The New Yorker & Adam Gopnik to see what was up. No one tweeted me back. Hrrrrumph.
Let's maybe say we're done with this editorial outrage, or maybe even say "who cares?" (but obviously I do!) and just get to this week's news.
The LZSundayPaper is a (hopefully error-free but sometimes typo-ridden) snapshot of the week's news about and by women in business, politics, digital, media, film, tv, fashion, sports, and pop culture. Roughly in that order. And it usually contains a little bit of a laugh.
Please Tweet or share your favorite links. Or forward the entire thing to a Friend if you are motivated to do so.
Please send me interesting items of things you think I may have missed here.
And do peruse the back catalogue for the issues you missed or sign up at LZSundayPaper.com.
Sometimes there's so much interesting stuff out there I can't wait 'til Sunday so I tweet it during the week. Follow me @LZSundayPaper.

AND WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT:
The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ (soon to be registered trademarked and copyrighted) launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes in size high, medium, and low. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
