Thanksgiving weekend final tidings:
The large Thanksgiving holiday dinner: successful.
Movies seen:
Knives Out -- Loved it. Fun, great cast, kind of old fashioned but with very contemporary send-ups, kind of impossible not to enjoy. I can never figure out murder mysteries, even after reading all 60+ Agatha Christie novels as a kid. Amazingly enough, I read them over and over again and *still* never remembered the twist. Comes in handy for when people 'spoil' movies for me. If I wait a while I forget what they said and I am super-surprised in the film.
Ford v. Ferrari -- I'm not going to say it would pass the Bechdel Test by any stretch, unless you count the cars who they refer to as "she" all the time, revving with each other. But I loved it. "The Wife" character was allowed momentarily out of the house/kitchen and had some sassy car knowledge wrapped up in her sex appeal, but I can't say it was inspiring. Never-the-less, I adore a movie where there are two huge co-stars who each find total stardom in their own role, and make each other even bigger-seeming in each other's presence. And it was sad! Unexpected.
Dark Waters -- Astonishingly well-reviewed, it was wonderful to see on its own but also incredibly interesting to see back to back with Ford. v. Ferrari. It struck me that for the first time in a long time, in both films corporations themselves are a character in the film, and they sure play the villain well. I mean, real, real evil. Like '70's kind of corporate conspiracy evil. I like that! Bechdel test-wise, another F for Feminism. Folks are lauding Anne Hathaway in her role, but I must say that lady, too, was stuck in the kitchen very frequently crying and/or angry saying that she was not crying and/or angry. BTW I get why she would be crying and/or angry, but still that seemed to be the sum total of her character.
Also this weekend: yoga was done; tennis was played (or will be by the end of today). So, all in all, the weekend was a smashing success and actually kind of relaxing, even including the 27 dishwasher loads, the weekend puppy-sitting which peaked in a fishtailing high-speed collision with a folding table and the destruction of 4 (cheap) wine glasses, 3 overnight London houseguests, and sadly, in fact, a funeral for a best childhood friend's dad which, while deeply moving, was also a wonderful celebration of his life.
Winding down the long weekend, astonished that it's December already, hope you have a last weekend morning's time for today’s most important, thought-provoking news about women in politics, news, business, media, campus life, health, science, the arts, and pop culture. Hand-picked by me, for you.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh.
