LZ Sunday Paper Newsletter: The "Douche-Con 4" Edition
JUST TO KICK THINGS OFF:
"Men In Boxes", NY Times, 9/21/2014
editor's note: These are the four cover images from four different sections of today's New York Times. Themed issue? Trend in art direction & graphic design? Do "Section Editors" work in silos like most Corporate Division heads? In any case, #thatsallottamen and #thatsallottaboxes might be trending right now on Twitter.

Greetings, Readers & Clickers:
The title of today's Sunday Paper edition, "Douche-Con 4," comes from an article entitled "A NYC Bartender's Powerful Open Letter To The Hedgefunder Who Allegedly Grabbed Her Ass."
Where did this Open Letter go? "Viral," that's where. The straightforward, thoughtful assessment of what made this woman write her letter to this man, and then the man's increasingly douche-tastic responses made the viral fire burn ever brighter.
It was such a busy week keeping track of all the breaking (and re-breaking) news (that just seems like the same story), it appears that I'd completely missed the crowning of the new Miss America! Miss New York, no less! And that means I also missed the seemingly necessary "scandal" that accompanies the crown.
Known to be a lady who has some opinions, it might surprise very few of you to learn that I vote in every election i can get a ballot for. Judges, city councilpeople, propositions, you name it. I'll fill out surveys, answer questions from cold-callers on my land-line, watch trailers in kiosks in movie theaters and give responses, check boxes on backs of envelopes in hotel rooms. So it might be interesting for you to know that I did turn down the opportunity, for real, to judge the Miss Universe Pageant. I just…couldn't.
This week, still riding the high of having voted in the primary last Tuesday, you can imagine I was disappointed not to be a Scottish citizen. Nor a golfer. So I missed out twice to weigh in on important Scotch issues! In the vote that wasn't about whether or not to break away from the UK, 85% of the 2500 members who voted agreed that women should be admitted to the 260-year old Royal and Ancient Golf Club. It was deemed "an overwhelming majority." But I can't get over the fact that as many as 375 men said "Nae a guid idea."
Royal and Ancient. Even for a club that is both regal and old, it's just not a good name. Again, that's just my opinion, I haven't been asked to vote on that. I do know, however, that Lorde would not have had a hit had she named her song "Ancients" instead of "Royals," that is for sure.
In news of the recently departed, my friend Joan Rivers sent us one final message. She posted from the grave, apparently, about her delight regarding her purchase of a new iPhone 6. Makes one wonder about the veracity of most celeb endorsements. Also makes one wonder whether there is a newly vacated position for a low-level social media manager position at a big PR firm that you/your son/daughter/niece/nephew could apply for.
As TMZ put it, Steve Jobs could not be reached for comment.
Every week, I vote for The LZSundayPaper to expose and recirculate news about, and very frequently by, women. Some of the news and some of the women are royal, and some, though rarely, are ancient. We break it down into the business, digital, tech, media, sports, and cultural sectors from whence they come. The douche-con level usually remains low, though every week we expect one good laugh, sometimes at the expense of a douche-tastic individual.
Don't forget to send us interesting stuff you think we may have missed, and tell us what you think at OR tell people you think will enjoy it to sign up at LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
Many of the articles we don't have room to include in the weekend edition are tweeted out all during the week! You can read/see them if you follow it/me/us @LZSundayPaper.
Enjoy!

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ (soon to be registered trademarked and copyrighted) launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes in size high, medium, and low. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
