Dear Friends and Followers,
I hope you are enjoying the weekend, whether regular length or long.
I personally think that Indigenous Peoples' Day, fka Columbus Day, is an extremely confusing holiday in terms of the way it is (so inconsistently) observed. Data supports my theory. It is deeply unhelpful for many working parents that many, but not all, schools are closed while most, but not all, workplaces are open. The post office is closed because it's a federal holiday but the stock exchanges are open. From a logistical perspective, many unions have already "traded" Columbus Day for the Friday after Thanksgiving. Good idea. Let's all get on the same page.
How about this: it should either be made into an actual holiday that we all celebrate (ie take off from work or school) or --my preference-- that it be celebrated under a re-branded Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. From a societal perspective, it would be good to acknowledge the historical difficulties of the Thanksgiving story and the Columbus story at the same time. They are deeply intertwined.
Every week, holiday or not, I am committed to bring you the most important, thought-provoking news about women in politics, news, business, media, campus life, health, science, the arts, and pop culture. And it's always good for a laugh, somewhere in there.
Thank you for reading each week! Send me comments, along with articles, photos, or videos you think I need to see here. If you are not already, click here to become a subscriber.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
