Dear Readers,
Ack. Last week feels like about 3 months ago.
If you are mostly staying in and have had your fill of cooking and baking, too bad-- bake some more! My home-made Hamantaschen were really quite delicious, as was my dried-fruit and poppyseed streudel that I made from the left-over filling!
If that sounds dreadful, how about the idea of actually calling a friend on the phone and talking to them for an hour, like the old days? The first thing to tell the person is "everything is fine I am just calling to say hello" because we all know that most phone calls are *generally* bad news these days. So don't add "potential heart attack" to the list of ailments you could spread by telephonic socializing.
If that, too, doesn't appeal to you, maybe you need a refresh on your content queue. If so, here's my Foreign Film Kulture Korner recommendations:
An Invisible Life -- as brilliant a film as I've seen, bar any genre, this year. Though Brazilian, it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 'Roma' for its evocation of time, place, class, and the plight of the women in that world. It won Cannes' Un Certain Regard top prize. I didn't watch it for this reason--in fact I was surprised and delighted to see that it was directed by a very old friend who worked - as did we all - in whatever capacity was needed during our '80's/'90's New York film-making decade, on films like Tom Kalin's 'Swoon' and Todd Haynes' 'Poison.'
Les Miserables -- No, not that one, this one. Also in this year's crop at Cannes. An affecting drama also about class, race, and feeling trapped by what society is dictating you to be and do. Mostly about young men. I really liked it but beware, it was also heartbreaking.
Sure, if you haven't seen it, now's the time for Parasite. I really liked it. For an upsetting movie it is hard not to likeit!
Time to see the Doc-tor? Doc-umentaries, that is:
One Child Nation -- I think I recommended this during Awards Season but few people actually see documentaries. This one is worthwhile. Very.
And also if you missed it-- this is a documentary that is a hybrid -- it is definitely a doc but plays like a narrative feature. What a portrait. Honeyland -- not to be confused with the narrative feature Honeyboy -- which btw is also a movie very much worth seeing.
Sanitize your hands and don't distance yourself from today’s most important, thought-provoking news about women in politics, business, media, health, the arts, and pop culture. I guarantee you at least one harumph, one judgmental smirk, and one chuckle.

FWIW, I predicted that I would be relieved and happy last Wednesday when Harvey Weinstein was sentenced. Suffice it to say: I was. More on that in my not upcoming book that I am unlikely to write or publish.
And Happy St. Patrick's Day, whether you venture out to a sparsely populated bar or not!

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
