Dear Readers and Subscribers,
Since it's Memorial Day Weekend, I wanted to bring my new-since-last-summer subscribers up to speed on my own personal start to summer and reflections since last year. Specifically, to give you the brief history of my tennis shoes--stolen-by-a-fox, returned-by-a-still-anonymous-neighbor who let themselves into my house. My quest for a replacement. My blisters. My associated tennis tourney ambitions: I will play my first A-women's doubles championship after winning the B's; I will seek to redeem myself for my choke-rific tie-breaker loss in the women's singles tourney. But instead, the #metoo news is just too much, and too important. Memorial Day shenanigans and its reportage will have to wait.
HOLY MOLY. Harvey Weinstein was arrested. That is some news in the entertainment industry. As it should be. What's incredible to me is that it's national, local, and international news as well. And I happened to be in each of those types of places in the lead-up to when the "perp walk" news was breaking.
My most disturbing interactions with Harvey were on the business front, relating to being a producer on the movie 'Kids' and as the spear-header of the team that developed and launched 'Project Runway.' Blech--standing on street corners of Park City, Utah at Sundance. In Cannes. On the phone. In his office. The specifics are real, likely to be included in the book-I-will-likely-never-write (soon to be registered trademark?), and speak directly to the beastly, grotesque, mean, frightening, obnoxious, noisome, intimidating, and grossly protected individual that has now been so well reported. But also in many ways ridiculous, almost laughable, and certainly clearly deranged, expecting the world to revolve around the same venal motivations as he did. This guy was really something. And if you're wondering, no he didn't much care for me, either.
A million-dollar bail, an ankle bracelet, and confinement to the states of New York and Connecticut aren't the grossest punishment I can imagine, and it's a long hard road to conviction. Part of me, maybe cynically or maybe realistically, thinks that a masterful publicist in cahoots with his lawyers believe that a jail sentence is the only path to acceptable redemption. Thank God for Jodi Kantor, Megan Twohey, and Ronan Farrow who gave voice to the women who are the narrators of truth and courage.
This is a great weekend to get up to speed on the ongoing #MeToo fallout. It is really worth it. Don't burn out on it. Don't turn away when you simply cannot believe that a person you *like* or *respect* has behaved somewhere on the deeply offensive-to-criminal spectrum. Lots to learn. Even more to teach.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
