Readers,
A short checklist of things to do this week, depending on what mood you're in:
1) Watch 'Transparent' -- Season 3 was just released. But, if you haven't seen any, do start with Season 1. Then, move on to Season 2. While it briefly and amusingly slips off the rails a bit, it gets right back on and warms us up for Season 3. Watch, whether binged or individually, 'til the final episode. Probably the most profound characters, leading up to the most powerful, emotional ending I've seen on "tv" in years. Likely, this is how alot of people felt at the end of (insert "greatest tv of all time" title of your choosing here). But I feel this way about this. If the whole Emmy-award-winning thing somehow passed you by, dive in and get a sense of what everyone's raving about.
2) Donate to the campaign. Even a dollar. Or, make a phone call. Knock on a door. If she doesn't win, you will be ready to blame yourself, and you should! Even if HRC wins, you will feel stupid if you sat around and complained and talked about how awful it all is, but realize that that's all you did. It's not enough to say "I remember when she was elected." Say "I helped get her elected." I finally found an easy site to hook me into the exact level of volunteerism I may have room for. Well done, HRC tech and marketing folks!
3) Enjoy this article from 'The Independent' which "tweeted at" me on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the film GirlsTown, which I produced. This was a real blast from the past. I have no idea who/how they found me or what made them think to get in touch, but it really set off quite a flood of memories. Except for the memory of having done the interview, of which I had none! What I did remember was that it was one of the most difficult films I produced, and that's saying a lot. It is a film about what is today termed 'rape culture' and the penalties for both remaining silent and speaking out. It felt like an isolated piece of fringe art, about a subject -- not just rape and sexual assault, but the right to be an uneducated feminist; the taboo of suicide; alot of things that today are explicit 'movements' but then were barely on the mainstream radar. It is a wonderful film, with a fabulous cast. It was devised and directed by a great director, Jim McKay, who is as committed a feminist now as he was then and who showed me the way on many difficult paths during the GirlsTown process.
I also remember that I somehow produced it -- we actually filmed it-- during my first maternity leave from my first job. Here we are on set:
Fun Fact: I still have those shorts and wear them frequently! They were purchased at the original Reminiscence about 10 years prior to this picture.
Extra Value tid-bit to get you through the week:
These two incredible kids are going to the debate on Wednesday, after having won an essay-writing contest sponsored by PBS. I, for one, will be hotel-room (or possibly hotel bar-) bound, in the distinctlly important-to-the-election state of Florida. See item 2, above.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
