Dear New Subscribers and Veterans alike,
Welcome to this week’s edition of the Newsletter. Thank you for seeing me through the past several weeks of organizational fortitude.
Some highlights and realizations:
I don’t particularly care for the time, expense, and frequent pretentiousness/bad taste of paper invitations for special events, but I’m doubtful that I will reminisce over and/or fondle many Paperless Post Bar Mitzvah invitations in the future.
The proliferation of Holiday Cards with pictures of other people's kids/dogs is probably a significant portion of my correspondence collection. I have a go-forward strategy NOT to save them any more. No offense--I like kids and dogs as much as the next Christmas Card Recipient-- but I confess I would like to see a resurgence of beautiful, interesting, high quality actual cards with a brief-but-heartfelt sentiment rather than another mediocre Tinyprints iPhone vacation snapshot montage.
The organizational-industrial complex that has cropped up around getting tidy is quite formidable. And I am psyched for people who are purging their closets and entire lives of things that don’t “spark joy.” But I found that it was just as satisfying--if not more so--to mull over things that were once unbelievably painful and the cause of much angst and actual suffering as it was to smile over amazing, happy things that I had forgotten.
Things that sparked angst, fear, and loathing frequently had to do with: friends, camp, school, boys, work, family, vacations, kids, unexpected things.
Those that sparked joy, hilarity, and good will towards humankind: friends, camp, school, boys, work, family, vacations, kids, unexpected things.
Overall, I think I did a pretty good job balancing the keep/purge devil/angel voices in my head.
My kids can do the same level of celebrating and cursing when they go through their own boxes which have their neatly labeled annual treasures at some point in the future. Good luck!
There was plenty of news that didn't spark much in the way of joy this week, but some did. A selection of both is below in categories that span business, politics, digital, media, film, tv, fashion, sports, literature and general pop culture. Hand-picked. By me. For you.
You can peruse the neatly organized archive which takes up no closet--only server-- space at LZSundayPaper.com.

Sometimes there's so much interesting stuff out there I can't wait 'til Sunday so I tweet it during the week. Follow me @LZSundayPaper.
And don't forget, follow me at my @LZSundayPaper Instagram. It's fun! Way less reading! Just a visual funhouse that speaks to the themes of the Paper. And don't forget about @LZFloors. I really dig that one, too. I don't know if anyone really "gets it." If you like the #nofilter vibe, more so something a bit boring and even a little bit ugly, do tune into the feed.
10 days 'til the New York Primary! Let's get ready to VVVVVVOTE!
