Dear Folks,
January has become an increasingly busy month for media, tech, and business-ites.
Many big companies still have their annual leadership conference in the first week.
Then the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which has actually become less "what are they inventing that I will buy in 5 years?" and more like a general meeting place for advertisers and clients in media and tech.
The Golden Globes in LA. Which conveniently kicks off an entire two weeks in that City for the Television Critics' Association Press Tour, where every single tv station and streaming platform announce their new programming slate and critics write about how they think the show is gonna be.
Then mingled in there is Sundance, still ultra-relevant and essential as the premiere independent and emerging talent feature and documentary showcase in the US, which stars and power brokers attend in full force.
And Davos. Fancy folks speaking about important stuff in Switzerland. I can say it-- "oh I was just there!" I didn't talk about very important things but we sure had a fun time on vacation and felt very on time, efficient, enjoyed fondue, chocolate, cuckoo clocks. And although I don't know too much about actual economics, I do feel like we contributed to the World Economic Forum by spending what seemed to be a fortune in a very expensive country! A different city, though. I revisited the site of my coup, winning the World Cup rights for NBCU's Telemundo. Couldn't say hi to any FIFA pals, though-- they've all been fired or threatened with jail time or both! Actually, I ended up there because for some reason James (and Nora) Joyce is/are buried in a beautiful Zurich cemetary right next to FIFA hq, something I didn't notice on my biz-focused and clandestine whirlwind at that time. We spent our money at lots of places including one that I immaturely enjoyed the name of. In fact I enjoyed it so much that I spent even more money on my (semi-outrageous) phone plan and texted the photo to several people who. you might be surprised to know, enjoyed it on my level.
This year, I'm going to approximately one of those events. I will report in from Sundance in just a couple of weeks.
This Sunday Paper edition shows some experimentation with increased follow- and share-ability. Thank you to David and team at Eyeball; Chase, Emily, and Lucy in points north, for inspiration and motivation, as well as actual knowledge. And to steady contributors and supporters who have crossed into '17 strong: David, Julie, Cindi, Jules, Joanna, Barbie, BZ, Monica, Kate, Alyssa, Mandy, and many others. Sorry for the frustration of many who have reported in over the holidays that they can't get the Paper to their inbox consistently. Mailchimp and I are still working on that.
The LZ Sunday Paper is a must-read digest of news, hand-picked by me, for you, about and by women in business, politics, media, the arts and pop culture. There's usually something to laugh about, even to make you uncomfortable, but mostly to inform and entertain. This week, a slightly abbreviated edition, light on the heavier stuff, heavier on the lighter stuff.
Forward it to those you think will enjoy it. Share it on your social media channel of choice.
Send me stuff you think should go in a future edition here.
You can follow me on Twitter or on Insta @LZSundayPaper
When things are looking down, you can get a shared perspective @LZFloors.
See you next week!

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
