Readers,
Q&A:
Q: I know it was touch and go--did you make it to Sundance?
A: Yes. On Sunday, post-blizzard, I started calling Delta Airlines, explaining that my automatically re-re-re-booked flight for Tuesday didn't work for me--I had to be in Park City on Monday. Very patient customer service rep explained that "the system was very dynamic" so I couldn't book online, but that the seats do become available out of the blue, and they were looking at them live at the very moment I was speaking to them. But none were opening up for my possible flights. I thanked Bryce in the Cincinnati call center, hung up, and called again. On the third cycle of call/wait on hold/explain my situation/ask some more questions to keep them on the phone looking at changing seats, it worked. I took the middle seat in row 921 on a flight that landed at 12:15am in Salt Lake City. Thus began a fun, whirlwind 42 hour Sundance experience.
Q: Did you see any good movies there?
A: Yes. White Girl. Weiner. and Jim: The James Foley Story.
I saw three other movies, too. They were good/okay but imho not great, even though one of them will probably have won the Grand Prize and maybe the Audience Award by the time you read this. Sundance is still the greatest mix of moving, excellent, diverse, adventurous, and sometimes bad-but-not-in-ways-most-movies-are-bad festival. In addition to the six movies I saw, I saw a phenomenal web tv series which Sundance smartly screened in its primo, classic Egyptian Theater on Main Street. Check It Out: The Skinny.
Q: Did you happen to hear about the new Barbies that are diverse and have different body types?
A: Haha yes I get it-- you're being sarcastic! So yeah I know everyone else in the world has heard about it but I still included a good overview piece below ICTMI. Also, I saw them firsthand because the Mattel Launch Party was taking place in my hotel in LA on Thursday night!
Q: What in the world is the LZ Sunday Paper?
A: Thank you for asking. It's at this point in this top-note that I usually say something like "The LZ Sunday Paper is a hand-picked list of interesting and important pieces I scour for, each week. They are by and about--but not exclusively for-- women in business, politics, digital, media, film, tv, fashion, sports, literature and pop culture. Roughly in that order."
Q: Is it popular?
A: Thanks for asking that, too! Yes, it appears to be, as it's wider-read than I had thought it would be. But I do everything myself! So in busy weeks like this I tend to forget about doing things like posting on social media, cleaning up my email lists, or making it more shareable and social, all of which I would like to do! Also, I didn't bring any business cards with me to 4 events in Sundance and LA which would have been smart to have with me so that when people asked how to sign up, I could just give them a card. So if you please, I could really use some help getting the word out even wider. Please feel free to forward this email in its entirety to anyone at work or in your social network that you think would enjoy it. Or share it on Facebook or Twitter using this URL: LZSundayPaper.com.
Q: What if I have a good piece I think you should run, or have a general question or just want to tell you something?
A: Well that's an easy one! Just email me here.
Q: Do you ever post anything other than on Sunday mornings?
A: Yeah when I'm not running around like a nut, I Tweet interesting and topical things @LZSundayPaper.
Q: Is there anything to look forward to?
A: Always! Including next week's edition.
Q: How do you usually sign off?
A: Well, it varies. How about:
Thanks for waking up with me on Sundays and see you next week,
LZ
