Dear Subscribers,
On the eve of the 'unofficial start of summer,' we finally made it out to our summer house. You could say that constitutes good timing. But time, being what it is these days, makes little sense. Context clues like "Monday morning," as opposed to "Saturday night," don't offer much.
For years and years, especially when I had a big job and school schedules that kept me tethered to an urban-centered work week, I fantasized about coming out and living here full time for a month or two or more. Especially in the off-season. This season is certainly 'off' in every way. But we didn't. The pull of actual home and the weird feeling of being safer in New York City, even though the stats said otherwise, really makes no sense.
There are almost as many apartments in my apartment building as there are in this entire beach town. There are some differences. For instance there are no cars here. There's no restaurant. And only one general store. But there are many similarities. In both places we know our neighbors. In both places people in the community take care of one another. If you read this blog you know that one of my favorite things in our apartment building is the very 1.0 'intranet' e-bulletin board. People post entries for help wanted or help needed; high-schoolers offer tutoring or babysitting help; people ask for help cleaning their fish tank or pet sitting while they're away, or simply offer free stuff they no longer need and someone else wants. Our daughter scored an insane amount of very fancy dog food. We got a huge rug in perfect shape for one of the kids' rooms. In both places there are a whole lot of opinions, freely shared, about everything. The discussion of rules, whether deemed too many, too few, or fair in theory but unfairly applied, is a good deal of the conversation amongst said neighbors. And in both places, right now at least, everyone wears a mask.
I'm trying to figure out why beloved ocean-front respite doesn't hold the same pull as it always has. The beauty of the ocean and sounds of nature and ability to spill outside, less encumbered, for a walk, should be a no-brainer. But I have no brain, it seems some days, so maybe that's a contributing factor. I really related to this quarantine state of mind. Maybe that has something to do with it.
I really appreciate all those who contribute articles, photos, or videos each week. Please send them to me here.
It seems that journalists working from home are cranking out more stories about more things that I think you need to know, so forgive the length of the clips below. There is so much to learn about how politics, business, the arts, science, pop culture, and Coronavirus and all the rest affect women in such particular ways.

Good luck for any of you in an unlocking-down state. Masks on, hands off, and don't be an idiot.
New Yorkers, request your absentee ballot here-- the primary is June 23rd. For the first time, the definition of "temporary illness," which is a one of the conditions under which to cast an absentee vote, has been expanded to include the effects of Covid-19. So check that box and get your ballot!

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
