Happy Mother's Day!
This week's Sunday Paper is likely to, as per usual, give you a laugh. However you may also possibly--maybe even definitely--cry.
That is, if you treat yourself to some extra time to sample this week's Mothers Day themed offerings in today's Paper. I am serious -- these are some of the best, most diverse and moving pieces I have come across. On weeks like this I am very pleased to have a way in which to share them with so many people.
But before we get to that, a brief programming note:
Everyone's talking about Amy Schumer. They should be. She does a sketch show on the superb, albeit not-very-female, Comedy Central.
People are sharing her comedy sketches via social media and email by the million! Watch this one that is more related to not becoming a mother and you'll see why. I'm willing to bet that you will find her Friday Night Lights parody the funniest sketch about rape-y football players you have ever seen.
You could come back to me after watching a few of her shows and say that, actually, you don't find Amy Schumer as funny as, say, Tina Fey on 30 Rock. Maybe you prefer Broad City. Or Veep is more your style, or maybe the Mindy Kaling Show. That would be called taste, as in a subjective judgment. That is what makes for great conversation and different fan affinities.
But sometimes there is a bright shiny line of unfunniness and offensiveness. The entire world gasps and wonders who thought it was funny in the first place.
That would be something like…this. Watch it, it is shocking:
Speaking of insanely misguided marketing campaigns, if you missed the recent Bud Light "No means Yes" campaign you should quickly see what that was all about, too.
Quick! you might want to let your loved ones know that they should seek alternative Mothers Day presents, in case you have a mother's intuition that they were going to get you some court-side Cavs seats and a 6-pack of Bud Light.
So let's get back to breakfast in bed, where you hopefully still are, if you are celebrating Mothers Day in a more traditional style. Even if you are not a mother, chances are you had one and deserve to spend the day treating yourself to something good.
All the news you're are used to seeing in the LZ Sunday Paper about women in business, politics, entrepreneurship, film, tv, music, literature, sports, and pop culture is still here today, but all through the two-way looking glass called motherhood and daughterhood. There's a touch of father- and son-hood thrown in for good measure.
Enjoy your brunch, roses, cards and other stuff that people buy and sell in the hopes of getting some pecuniary gain out of the most valuable relationship you might ever have had.
You can find the most recent copy of the Paper and the Archive at LZSundayPaper.com.
You can send me a note or an item you think I should see here.
There's so much interesting stuff out there I can't wait 'til each Sunday so I tweet it during the week. Follow me @LZSundayPaper.
See you next week!

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ (soon to be registered trademarked and copyrighted) launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes in size high, medium, and low. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
