Dear Mothers, Parents of Mothers, Children of Mothers, Siblings of Mothers, Mothers-in-Law, Bosses and Employees of Mothers, those who are married to Mothers, and pretty much anyone else,
Happy Mother's Day.
I think we've established, in other Sunday Paper editions, that it actually wouldn't be a great idea if "every day" were any holiday at all. For example: Christmas, Valentine's Day, your Birthday. These are all good annual events. In fact I think it's possible that we should move to a bi-annual schedule for some of these.
Today's case in point: if every day were Mother's Day, would I need to eat a Thomas' English Muffin every day? That may or may not be the point of the "Make Every Day Mother's Day Sweepstakes." I didn't enter the contest, I did visit their well-promoted website. While I like the idea of some of these prizes, like iTunes gift cards, "A Night Out With The Girls," or a Spa Package, I don't think I'm the target audience for Lawncare Services, since I don't have a lawn, plus that might not be the most awesome Mother's Day Gift I can think of.
Even if I did want any of these prizes, I'm not sure I would like to fill out detailed information including my Date of Birth and Email address so that the good folks at Thomas' can (as they describe on their site) market to me, or sell/exploit any of my information to anyone who asks them.
And EVEN if I were comfortable with that, I am definitely not comfortable with releasing said Personal Information "(5) in connection with Employment Applications," which is what the not-so-fine print says in Thomas' Privacy Policy.
And, finally, EVEN IF I were comfortable with my next employer's human resources group turning to Thomas' English Muffin Company to do some more due diligence after they checked my Linked In profile and ask one of my ex-bosses for a reference, I would suggest to the good folks at Thomas' that they change the official, legal name of their corporate holding company to something other than Bimbo Bakeries.
Our Sunday Paper is a digest of news about women, some of whom are mothers, and others of whom might be Bimbo Bakeries employees. We cover women in business, the media, cultural happenings, and some interesting related news that you might have missed coming across your (too) busy radar screen. Sometimes inspiring, entertaining, shocking, hilarious, but hopefully always worth reading, here is your Sunday Paper. Forward to peers, friends, family. Let them know they can sign up for this newsletter at LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
Today, while other news digests are covering the important business of the day (Apple buys Beats! 3B!! p.s. zzzzzz……), to the absolutely grave state of international news (the Nigerian kidnappings), we have a Special Edition. Today's Sunday Paper news is 100%, exclusively devoted to stories of Mothers. If you are busy pretending that this is a day when people allow you to be less busy but find yourself with more commitments than most Sundays, we encourage you to try to save this edition for later in the week. Some of the longer and more personal stories are really good. And very, very emotional. In the meantime, enjoy your flowers, brunch (hopefully including English muffins), and your possible car-detailing prize from the English Muffin Sweepstakes!
We'll be back with a veritable super-ton of non-motherly news next week.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ (soon to be registered trademarked and copyrighted) launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and for, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes in size high, medium, and low. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
