Dear Readers,
Today, just the basics: the best selection of important news by and about women in business, politics, news, the arts, sports, and pop culture. Yesterday was a tough day to write-- up and back to the Berkshires in a one-day, round-trip camp pick up. This follows last Sunday 1am/Tuesday 6a JFK/LGA Pick-Up/Drop-Off for a different travel/camp combo. I'm beefing with Google Maps but Waze, FlightTrack and I are very close confidantes right now.
I'm a little obsessed with the Epstein story, as you'll see from the coverage below. Not just because he led a spurious life and seems to have an ever widening web of enablers--and the magnitude of the depraved crimes is unfathomable. But also because the art in his house is weird and disgusting and very famous, rich people at all the dinner parties must have noticed, right? Also because a friend gave him a 77M mansion for free? I'm grateful when a friend brings a decent bottle of wine to a dinner party! I'm also very fascinated/disgusted because I happened to be seated next to Ghislaine Maxwell at at a dinner party just a few years ago. And, in my recollection, she was very intense and weird, one of those people who 100% vibes deep, deep backstory, but someone who also seemed exceptionally smart and interesting. Yeesh.

If I *were* going to say anything more this week, I'd say…on the tennis front, I'm sorry about Serena's loss but I listened to Halep's near perfect 6-2-, 6-2 game on the radio, driving up to the Berkshires yesterday morning. And then the grace and power with which Halep took the win and Williams took the loss. And it made me think-- I still can't get over all the column-inches of ink spent on Kyrgios losing to Nadal in such an ugly fashion, accorded "Bad Boy" status, while naysayers and shade-throwers continue to monitor Serena Williams' every move. As the person who really raised this issue to me last week said…
"Another thing about Kyrgios is that people are really willing to give him the benefit of the doubt -- journalists and even Nadal's take is that Kyrgios is very talented and it's somehow just frustrating that he is a complete asshole on the court and that he doesn't practice enough and that he parties too much. Kyrgios has won exactly zero grand slams.
Serena, winner of 23 grand slams, full of grace for 20 years, focused, disciplined, an ambassodor for tennis, leader, rolemodel, competing in the finals just months after delivering her first child where there were life-threatening complications is accorded no leeway? She really should have earned the respect of having the benefit of the doubt at this point."
Yes.
Cheers, mates!
LZ.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
