Dear Readers,
I think I'll start with my P.S. first:
PS--I don't know what the hell is going on in that Epstein investigation. But everyone is demonizing Alan Dershowitz and wondering what/if/why in the world he was Jeffrey Epstein's buddy. He has been creepy--very--and on the record about it. And has such a weird excuse for why he hasn't *actually* been gross, and possibly a lawbreaker.
But I have not seen anyone really writing about the fact that on the other side, David Boies, staunch defender of Harvey Weinstein, is representing the accuser of Epstein and going hard after Dershowitz? This is really weird. Maybe he is trying has a great publicist and is taking their advice, trying to rehabilitate himself and his firm's image? I just think that Boies v. Dershowitz is going to be worth the price of admission, folks. Too bad people's ruined lives at the hand of a serial predator/abuser are at the heart of the showdown.
I have not passed the bar in any state but honestly I don't know who's on trial for what crime when the lead defense attorney challenges the prosecutor in a veritable sex-off:
“I challenge David Boies to say under oath that he has only had sex with one woman during that period of time.”.
I certainly wish I never come to know this information.
In other news…
One social gathering ditty for you today. On the topic of self-perception, I guess.
I was at a very nice drinks get-together the other week. Perhaps you'd even use the phrase "heavy hors d'oeuvres" is in order, one that I adore, by the way. A different group than I normally see. Interesting folks. Lots of introductions and connections and getting-to-know conversation.
The subject of celebrity doppelgangers came up. People offered up who they think they look like. There were generally supportive "uh huh/yes, I see it…" responses with the occasional "really!?"
My husband offered up that people told him frequently that he looks like Clint Eastwood. Especially from the 2000's-ish era films. It is always said as a compliment. And I happen to agree. The cheekbones, a bit squinty but very bright eyes, very tall, same lean body type. Okay also a bit "weathered." However, my husband doesn't look like he's going to shoot anyone either at a corral or in an urban gunfight. My husband agrees that it is meant as a compliment, despite the underlying tension of the gun violence. On the other hand, Clint Eastwood is 90, so…
The hands on the identity-circle clock came to me. On a couple of occasions I have gotten an Angelica Huston from a couple of people. I get it. Once got an Olympia Dukakis. I don't know. I offered up that I don't really think I look like any celebrities I know of. So, long story short, an amazing gentleman who was introduced as the host's first best man (I like that!) offered up this lady. *Do* I look like her? Amazingly, even though feature for feature I certainly don't, I actually get it! I am excited to fantasize about exuding a sense of literary amazingness and intense intellectualism, but I certainly hope I don't meet the same fate. I am taking it as a compliment, in any case.
See if you resemble any of the subjects in these most essential, absolutely important, interesting, and amusing news items by and about women in the politics, business, the culture, the arts, sport, and uncategorizable otherness…
