Dear Readers,
Welcome new subscribers!
And Happy Pride NYC!
I commend my friend RuPaul for this great cover story in EW. It is an oral history of Ru, including a mini-segment on the creation of The RuPaul Show for VH1. It's hard to believe it's been 20 years. It's hard to believe it was a "landmark achievement." But it was.
We learned a lot making the show. Like how long it took Ru to get into drag. Like how hard he worked. Like how little he cared which pronoun he used.
It was the second series we green-lighted, after Pop-Up Video, as the channel was transitioning (pardon the pun) from a music video channel to a television channel. We booked huge stars like Cher and Diana Ross. They came to support Ru and to speak directly to their fan base, both musically and gay-ly. Both Pop Up and Ru's TV series were controversial -- for different reasons. Both went to 100+ episodes. Both opened the door to certain ways of looking at the world.
Hopefully you are finding a way to celebrate Pride this month, either out at a March in your town or City or maybe just by aligning in some strong way with the LGBTQ community. I think most all of us can relate to having been under siege in some cultural, personal, or other way at one time or another. And making progress. As the world gets more woke, it gets better.
This week's news represented another kind of wokeness. Maybe two steps forward one step back? Serious repercussions played out in Silicon Valley with two resignations. But a hung jury and the announcement of a bizarre how-not-to-get-accused-of-rape "educational tour" took us back a step, for sure.
Whatever steps there are, we cover it all each week-- news about and by women in business, media, digital, politics, and pop culture. Send me comments, questions, or stuff you think should go in next week's edition here. I have a bajillion pieces that I just don't have room for in the weekly edition, so you can follow me on Twitter to get a daily fix. I am technically on Insta @LZSundayPaper but have been almost completely dormant. It seems harder for me to translate the news about women of the minute/day/week purely visually. I'm all about the words, when it comes to women.
So check out the gender-free way that I see the world at @LZFloors .
Hope you have a lovely day whether you are celebrating Pride or not.
Looking forward to the July 4th holiday! Boom.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
