Greetings!
Before we go any further: we IMPLORE you to add this email address to your online address book. Especially those of you receiving this through your corporate email system, as your firewalls are frequently blocking the Mailchimp servers from delivering the newsletter.
Existential conundrum:
--For many of you, the Sunday Paper emails don't even get diverted to your Spam, so you just don't get it anywhere in your email. But you don't even know you didn't get it. Unless you happen to think "hey, where is that fabulous Sunday Paper that I used to get?"
--For us, here at Sunday Paper HQ, our data show these undelivered emails as delivered, not rejected, so we have no way of knowing who didn't get it. Unless you happen to email to say "hey, I didn't get that fabulous Sunday Paper I used to get."
Usually, the way we DO find out that someone's computer system is blocking us, is that someone at the same place of employ does get it, and talks about something they liked, and the other person has a V-8 moment (Wow, I coulda hadda Sunday Paper!) After knocking self on side of head, that person emails us--or better yet, their trusty IT support--to allow the server to accept the email. You can just tell IT that we have the tech specs for them, if they need them.
Another conundrum, this one more disconcerting and more difficult to solve:
--Sometimes I believe there's actually some progress being made in the number of interesting, provocative, and informative stories and articles about women in business and the culture at large. That's part of why The Sunday Paper was born. As you know, we find it difficult to cut The Sunday Paper down to the 15 or 20 curated clips you see each week. But then an article like this gets written about the state of the Venture Capital business. A cover story in a national newsmagazine. It's a loooong, detailed piece. What's interesting--stunning and sad, in fact-- is the lack of women mentioned. I don't think even one. Not one venture partner, or entrepreneur, or anyone anywhere in the value chain. I defy you to find one mention of one non-male. However, there is a very--very!--cute picture of a girl dancing at an AirB-n-B party.
My point is, Newsweek saw fit to go out and research, write, and publish this piece -- also a cover story -- about the struggle for the female entrepreneur- and VC community, which we published here just three weeks ago! Filled with women making their way, some brushed back, some dominating. Each piece was written by a woman, fyi and btw and idkitm (idon'tknowifthatmatters).
Remember last week when I said I didn't much care for the Lady Lists? It's related. If it's not a "Women-In-Whatever" list, there's a tacit allowance for the "100 Most Whatever" lists to be nearly as lopsided as this Newsweek article. As long as we take care of them on their lists, they can feel important, and claw their way to the number one spot on a list noone with any power looks at. When it's back to business as usual, the status quo is taken for granted. The ladies are, frequently, simply not part of the story.
We never would have published this week's Cover Story here, in fact, had not a devoted reader of The Sunday Paper not pointed it out for its very lack of appropriate subject matter for us.
Get it? The story is a glaring one, a good fit for The Sunday Paper, but only by the absence of women-relevant content. See? It's like not getting the Sunday Paper in your inbox. You have to work extra hard to realize what you don't see.
Dang! I coulda hadda V8 or possibly a start-up valued at 17B like Uber!
In other news, guess what?! The tech team managed to launch the LZSundayPaper website! This is not an area of expertise for the staff here at HQ. We did our best. Which was sub-par. So in the grand tradition of Corporate IT, we outsourced. I never want to see this "back end," of which people speak, again.
So, with the grace of the tech Gods, this thing is in your, and many other people's, email box. When it does appear sans "blocking," and "bouncing," and "server rejection," The LZ Sunday Paper exposes and recirculates news about, and very frequently by, women in business, media, and culture. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh. Send us stuff you think we may have missed, and tell people you think will enjoy it to sign up, at LZSundayPaper@gmail.com, or visit the new site!
Enjoy!

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ (soon to be registered trademarked and copyrighted) launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes in size high, medium, and low. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
