JUST TO KICK THINGS OFF:
I think Janice Huff is a great meteorologist and also has sartorial flair. But today is the last day I will post photos of her and other weatherpeople. It's a jerky thing to do; I didn't realize it; and I apologize.
Readers,
My Pic(k) Of The Week story (below) is about how a $23.00 dress was purchased and worn by dozens of local television news meteorologists around the country. In reading about this phenomenon, I discovered that I am an inadvertent participant in a mean meme.
From The Washington Post article:
"Well, some people are jerks. They’re the kind of people that will send messages to women after their broadcast ends, commenting on what they were wearing, or the way they did their hair, or maybe just how particularly phenomenal they looked during their weather segments."
Guess what? I am that "kind of people," aka a "jerk," because every so often I screenshot my absolute favorite meteorologist, Janice Huff, who has been on my local news station, Channel 4 New York, since she was a substitute on holidays and weekends for Al Roker, when he was still the local weatherman.
When I ran into Janice every so often in 30 Rock, she was super-professional and nice, too. That is reflected on air--she is really good at her job, taking things just seriously enough.
But, to me, she also has an insouciant vibe. I believe this is also reflected sartorially. Here are another couple of recent screenshots. You can see that she has a real pattern of deliberate style choice. And I thought it was worth noting.
Sometimes I just felt compelled to document it. Which, it turns out, is something lots of other people do, but in a jerky way, and I apologize sincerely. I am sad that actual admiration, even when tinged with wry appreciation, can be categorized along with icky, troll-ish behavior, mostly due to the internet's ability to drive everything down to its lowest common denominator of horribleness, with no capacity for slight distance, wit, or grey area of any kind. Even though Janice "liked" each and every one that I Tweeted out, I'm not going to do it any more.
The forecast for The LZSundayPaper is an unseasonably warm one! We takes its work seriously, hopefully also with a touch of insouciance, though without much sartorial verve. Take a look at this week's news about and by women in business, politics, digital, media, film, tv, fashion, sports, and pop culture…and weather. Hand-picked. By me. For you.

Sometimes there's so much interesting stuff out there I can't wait 'til Sunday so I tweet it during the week, but you won't find any screenshots of Janice or any other weathercasters who I think look interesting when I watch the local news in other cities. Follow me @LZSundayPaper.
Happy Thanksgiving!
