Dear Readers,
A couple of long flights over the course of just a couple of days, plus some viral/awful news leads me to think about…
Airlines-- yes, awful.
Run terribly. No consistency of fares, rules, enforcements, quality of service. Best I can say about them is that most airplanes don't crash. That's about the nicest thing I can think of to say right now. That's a pretty basic level of service but I don't take it for granted.
The second most important thing is to not get dragged off a flight, bloodied and bruised. This lady took the opposite tack and made $11,000 by getting off her flights.
I just have the laundry list of regular insults and discomforts, and even much pettier stuff.
Like the fact that I am convinced that flight attendants now talk, as in chat with each other, more and more, than I've ever witnessed on regular plane travel. Maybe they have more time, because there's less and less basic services that they provide, so there's less to do, maybe? Maybe it's just when I fly, but aside from the occasional baby or briefly-chatting couple of folks, the cabin is like an Amtrak Quiet Car, where the passengers are totally silent, like where even loud keyboarding is glared at. Except in the airplane version, I am telling you that now it is a God-given right for the flight attendants to chat-- really, really loudly, and for the entire flight, in their galley/cubicle. Excuse me ma'am and gentleman, can you stop talking about your awful shift schedule and the travel agent job you used to have and the critique of the critique of People's most recent Best/Worst dressed list you are looking at? But I am always too scared to complain, though, because in the event of an emergency I might need help getting down the inflatable slide.
Okay well anyway, my flights were on time, and they got me where I was going. Work was good. I'll leave it at that.
Last week's edition had lots of pictures of things, rather than just words and article links. That made my nemesis, Mailchimp--vaunted sponsor of every "blockbuster" podcast under the sun--screw up delivery to about half of you-- but it won't let me see which half. Very frustrating. This week's paper is back to basics, covering women in business, politics, media, tech, the arts and pop culture.Send me stuff you think should go in a future edition here.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
