Dear Readers,
Dear Readers,
The ballots have been COUNTED! The results are IN! Yes, the election is OVER! The single most important decision in this election season has been MADE!
My mattress-- yes my new mattress-- is being delivered Tuesday. The opinions on this issue are so passionately held, I'd actually like to see the canceled presidential debate re-purposed to give these pundits' opinions some space to be heard.
Folks-- thank you for generously sharing. It genuinely helped me with our decision when it finally came time to pull the lever, as we used to say.
Let's start with some news you can use!:
"Get a latex mattress. Completely toxin free. The deep foam ones are impossible to have sex on, BTW. Impossible!" -- Kathryn J.
My incredible subscribers share, inform, and spare no detail. If you don't happen to be in the mattress shopping mode, or are a new subscriber and doing give a shit about what mattress I procured, you might want to skip down to the news.
I loved every suggestion and researched them as best I Covidly-could--here is just a smattering:
_**"I love my firm, firm, unshakeable (e.g. when another person flops into bed) Casper mattress! It's several years old now and I still fully endorse!" -- Rachel A.
"I decided to just go with Saatva because of good reviews, a choice of firmness, and a 180-day trial period. The customer service guys on the phone (didn't speak with any women the two times I called) were also informative and had nice voices. :D " -- Mary L.**_
_**"I would like to place my vote for the Saatva mattress. Very satisfied customers here." -- Bryan M.
"…Savoir is another fine company that makes beds (and is throwing in the sheets.)
Good luck!" --Pat B.
"After trying all the usual suspects; Casper, Purple, Puffy, Helix, Serta, and evenSleep Number, we chose The Winkbeds Plus. We love it! It’s firm but comfortable. Sleeps “cool,” as they say." --Susan R.**_
_**"…We've been very happy with our European Sleepworks mattress (Alpine HDM), not top of the line but still pricy. Good luck with that." --Anne H.
"This may be too much at this point in your mattress journey but this woman did a lot of work and came up with an answer if it’s helpful…" --Corena C.
"As we get older, the initial layer needs to be soft with firm underneath. So said Tom at the Clean Bedroom. …My aching back and neck haven’t looked back. Serenity by Savvy Rest …" --Michelle B.**
"Our new king size Hästens mattress finally made its way over from Sweden and is kind of to die for. Seriously, like I can't wait to go to bed each night…" --Kris B.
"It was worth the wait for our (super super firm) latex, allergy free, buy it once in your life and then you are done mattress from https://sleepingorganic.com/product/latex-mattress/" --Caitlin T.
"My only advice, which you probably already know, is to upgrade the whole household‘s mattresses while you’re at it…" --Mary N.
"I found an organic mattress made out of bamboo by a company in the Midwest. I forget the name and the state (Ohio? Indiana?). The mattress is FIRM…I am so sorry I don’t remember the name, but I bet you can google and find it. There probably aren’t a lot of midwestern companies making bamboo mattress/pillow products." --Peggy D._
_"Firmest, longest lasting is horse hair. While pricier than others, it absolutely is worth it. Can be found at custom bedding stores -- often small family run businesses- - another plus. Worth every penny!" --Ellen F.
**"Before purchasing a brand new mattress without trying it out in person, may I suggest you try a firm latex foam mattress topper first?… Best of luck with your search. I hope you sleep well." --Shirley W.
"Consider this: Macys. Seriously. They have a trained customer service group to fit you to the right mattress…They get on the line with you and hear everything about your needs/preferences. Plus You get to try it out and if it doesn’t work, it is returnable. Worth considering." --Sara L.**_
_**"I have a Duxiana, very firm. Best I have ever had." --Martha J.
"We mistakenly got a sleep number first- It’s basically a very expensive air mattress. But then we got the Avocado Green mattress and I’m back to sleeping like a baby." --Sara S.
"We were originally considering an Aireloom because we know two couple who have one and love it, but I discovered their mattresses aren’t vegan (I hadn’t even thought it was a thing to worry about with mattresses)." --Elisa P.**_
And so, what did we vote for…?
Well, I was perusing the esteemed industry journal Mattress Monthly. Haha just kidding! No but really-- after a hot tip, I *was* reading this article in…Bed Times. So with most recommendations coming in all over the map, with a predilection for Saatva because the CEO's family lives in the little beach community in which I reside, I did a side-by-side (literally) lay-down test of Saatva vs. Schifman. It was like the Presidential debate but without all the race-baiting and didn't make me think the world was ending!
In the end, Schifman won out. Be forewarned-- we take delivery on Tuesday so putting it to the test will be a thrilling post-election confirmation of the ballot box, kind of like our election where we will be voting and then weeks later (if we're lucky) we will have a winner.
Pushing the election/voting/mattress analogy one step further, wouldn't you love to see a CNN show with 15 women debating the merits of their mattresses? I am SO APPRECIATIVE of people taking the time to write me what they think, what they have experienced. And this was just a smattering of the responses! Thank you to everyone else who opined. May you have a wonderful night's sleep.
But not right now-- in fact, now is the time to read the most important news by and about women in politics, business, pop culture, and sports. Send me any articles, photos, or videos you think I need to see right here.
