Unapologetic. No really, this is not a Sunday Paper caption: Hashtag Unapologetic is this ad campaign's Twitter handle.
Hello! A Presidential Valentinian Olympian Fashionweekian Illustrated Weekend Greeting to you!
It's all raging on: including the weather.
Last week I achieved my own Olympianical personal best, of a sort: The Sunday Paper editor's note was a "longest ever." I seem to have inadvertently jumped on a fast-speeding trend luge. Recently, there's been a tremendous amount of chatter about longform writing for mobile/web. Phenomenal new outlets, from which we have highlighted many stories in past weeks, such as Medium, Atavist, and The Awl, have received great notice, great funding, and/or great loyalty, in various respects. Others are up-and-coming, like this one, The Riveter, created by two women journalists. And you'll see a compelling story below**, from another one we came across, called Pithead Chapel.
So how and whyever do we find ourselves in what seems to be an immediate backlash to people liking to write longer and more in-depth pieces? Especially when it is also evident that consumers like to read them! I thought we were all worried about noone wanting to read anything anymore because we're all playing Flappybird? It seems almost laughable that well-known journalists in super-famous outlets are concerned that other well-known journalists in less famous outlets are going to pad their pieces with bad writing. Maybe they're right: everyone knows that writers get paid by the word so they're just padding their stories with lots of conjunctions to rake in the big bucks (ha ha NOT). On the positive side, does this mean we can move on from the daily merriment of intra-journalistic bashing of "listicles" and short-form journalism?
On to this week. My Valentine's K.I.S.S. to you is: Keep It Short, Sistah.
Alert: There's a lot of talk about Hair this week. Never has a discussion about too much or too little been so pubic, I mean public.
The LZ Sunday Paper exposes not only hair, but other interesting content that is about, and for, women in business, along with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes in sizes high, medium, and low. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh.
Again, thank you for your feedback and in particular, for sending interesting articles and media pieces you've come across. Keep them coming to the LZSundayPaper@gmail.com mailbox.
BTW there's no such thing as "oversharing" when it comes to telling your pals about this newsletter.
Enjoy!
