LZ Sunday Paper Newsletter: The "Very Linear" Edition (With Extra Context)
JUST TO KICK THINGS OFF:
Comments welcome, August 2014.
Note: This is a t-shirt with a drawing of a video game controller saying "Nobody Likes You" to a Homework notebook. Whether you find this funny or mean, in the interest of much-requested linear thinking and clarity (see below), you will find a brief discussion of this t-shirt at the bottom of the blogpost, **below.

Greetings, Readers!
I always ask for comments from The Sunday Paper audience, and I mean it. Last week you did not disappoint: I got a ton of feedback from Sunday's "Vacationland" missive.
Like much of mainstream media, The Sunday Paper is experimenting with its "distribution model." We have begun to publish weekly on Linked In, under its "Influencers" rubric. Linked In is a fabulous platform for "connecting" professionals. Most people who follow Influencers are looking for specific stories that relate directly to business "how to," self-improvement, and general corporate acumen. This is evident when you peruse such popular posts as "PepsiCo's CEO On How To Become Rich And Powerful," "The Only 10 Things You Need To Know To Be A Great Leader," or even the more sentimental "I Shed A Tear For Radio Shack."
While The LZ Sunday Paper is for sure meant to be business-focussed, the top of the Paper--a blog post-- doesn't always have a very linear path to business enlightenment. So without proper context, The Sunday Paper could be…confusing. So, while the majority of the ~12,000 or so readers on Linked In who gave last week's edition a look-see seemed satisfied, there was a vocal group who felt underserved by the "Vacationland" edition.
Mark H., a Maine-dweller, in fact, had a sharply worded comment:
Seriously, this was one of the most ridiculous, dis-jointed, "will it ever get to the point so that I can stop skipping over meaningless paragraphs" article I have ever read. I live in "Vacationland," have no wireless problems unless you go out into the very deep "north country," and find that this article told me ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT "VACATIONLAND" from its title. I should now invoice you for the time you just stole from me in reading this.
This gal was also greatly disheartened, and agreed 100% with Mark H.:
Director, Operations Planning
This article said nothing and was a complete misrepresentation of Maine. The author should be embarrassed and LinkedIn should be ashamed to be promoting it. I agree with Mark H. completely!
Whether you agree or disagree, you may also find some interesting intellectual stimulation from Mark H.'s other writings. This is his profile synopsis so you can look him up:
Mark H.( Upgrade for full name )
National Polygamy Advocate ™ ♦ Inspirational Speaker ♦ "You Can Do This!"
Others were concerned that I could not relax, or that I had not experienced Maine in all its glory. I swear that I did both! Thoroughly!! But appreciate the concern:
Principal Engineer at HARMAN International
Toss the tablet and phone in the glovebox and enjoy vacation already. What is up with people that feel they need to be connected or work while away with the family? That and there's no such thing as eating "one too many lobster roll".
Mover and Shaker
Ah, victim of the rocky beach, you'll get better traction (generally) barefoot than in sandals, yet in the woodsy areas, always go for hiking boots with good, stiff ankle support.
Seeking Employment - Engineering Professional in a Career Transition
From my experience, the lobster is good there. If she mentioned that, then it all would have made sense….Someone else mentioned she might have fallen on a rocky beach? Think positive maybe the next blog will be a lot better….
I am definitely thinking positive--thank you!
Others also came to my defense--sort of:
Tech Team at MSC Industrial Supply
I think the author is truly enjoying her vacation! I'm not sure what she was trying to say but she seemed to have a lot of fun saying it.
Seriously, I apologize for wasting not only a lot of people's time, but other substances, as well:
Owner, JMP Environmental Consulting, Inc.
Another waste of electrons.

So, before there's another spate of comments that tarnish the good Linked In Influencer brand name…

Proof, if it were needed, that the LinkedIn "influencer" badge is not a signifier of quality.

…let me explain right away that The LZSundayPaper is a weekly newsletter that (after a brief, first-person, sometimes disjointed and seemingly non-sensical blog post) exposes and recirculates news about, and very frequently by women in business, media, and culture. Each week, the clips progress in a roughly consistent progression: from general business news, through digital & entrepreneurship, on to media, arts & entertainment. Usually, this is followed by a dash of sports, literature, and some high- and low-brow culture, with not much in the middle-brow category.
While the focus of the content is about and by women in business, the audience is meant to be very inclusive. That means men, Linked In followers, and Polygamy Advocates alike.
A pledge to new readers, faithful followers, Linked In-ers, and those on our expanding, various other platforms, I will continue to strive to make more sense.
In the meantime, don't forget to send us interesting stuff you think we may have missed, and tell people you think will enjoy it to sign up at LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
Follow it/me/us @LZSundayPaper.
Sorry, again, for any confusion our un-contexted publishing may have caused!
**Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled blog post: I wanted to buy this t-shirt because I thought it was funny and I knew for sure there is at least one person in my household who would appreciate it. Trying to find it on-line, I came across this comment thread on Facebook and other social media. Seems like Linked In doesn't have the monopoly on comment threads, that is for certain. Not wanting to contribute negatively to the national debate on bullying, I have not yet purchased it. Thoughts? Comments? On any platform? I will kick things off by saying that I think the price is very reasonable.
Enjoy!

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ (soon to be registered trademarked and copyrighted) launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes in size high, medium, and low. Our audience for this content is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
