Readers,
You win some, you lose some. That is the moral of this week's media consumption. And the tennis tournament I got knocked out of.
Here's what's consistent for me--more so than my serve: After I win, I think I'm better than I actually am. After I lose, I think I'm much worse. Same for you?
Some recommendations based on long sought-after screen-time. Which, frankly, I should have spent practicing my tennis serve:
Winner: Jill Soloway's "I Love Dick." I am late to the party on this one-- and what a party it is. I loved it. A real art piece. Very out there. Amazing that it got made, frankly, in the style and with the abandon with which it did. Whereas traditional networks would (and still do) say no even to powerful, award-winning creators when they thought their next projects wouldn't pull in ratings, streaming services say yes. Like Amazon Prime did here. They like being in business with brilliant people and can afford to delight the specific audiences that those creators bring with them. And also buy Whole Foods and hope to delight us with organic produce delivered by laser beams.
Speaking of someone-at-a-network-probably-decided-they-couldn't-get-a-rating-on-traditional-tv but here is a fantastic show and I can't get enough of it: Winner: Tina Fey's "Kimmie Schmidt." Season 3 snuck up and premiered last month on Netflix. I just love it. Every character. Really enjoyed Daveed Diggs as a student who can't…okay wait, I won't spoil it for you.
Sad news: Loser: I did not enjoy GLOW, though the rest of the entire world loves it, so give it a chance.
Documentaries, you ask?
Loser: "Casting Jon Benet," streaming now. It was at Sundance. Big acclaim. However, IMO, watch only if you literally can't get enough rehash of the case, for whatever reason. I didn't care for it. Gross. Exploitive and not interesting enough. Didn't get to motivations or context, or anything else I would want from it.
In another genre, Winner: the NPR "Tiny Desk" concert series has gotten a ton of hype lately. It's worth it--this episode in particular.
Okay that's it for a slow-ish summer week. But there's a s**t-ton about the must-read/watch/see events by and about women in business, media, digital, politics, and every aspect of pop culture, each week, right here. Enjoy and share. Subscribe if you don't already. Sign your friends up. Believe me, they'll unsubscribe if they don't care for it.
Send me comments, questions, or stuff you think should go in next week's edition here. I have a bajillion pieces that I just don't have room for in the weekly edition, so you can follow me on Twitter to get a more frequent fix.
THANK YOU to my amazing contributors who so consistently unearth great pieces or Tweet interesting stuff. I appreciate the Likes and Retweets, too.

AND WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT:
The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
