Dear Readers,
Belated Happy Juneteenth and Happy Father's Day!
However you are celebrating either or both of these holidays, I hope you find more ways to be actively inclusive, feminist, and anti-racist. And, in your spare time, continue to shelter safely and stay informed in this mile-a-minute political swirl.
WELCOME to new subscribers. An influx of L.A.'ers have found your way to the Newsletter. I hope you enjoy it, especially you extra-smart, funny, voice-strous folks whose names I recognize from my subscriber list.
To the veterans of all coasts, thank you so much for the continued stream of resources that you have sent to me in the past couple of weeks. I hope it represents an uptick of sustained commitment to whatever cause, or way of organizing, or amplifying, feels right.
One longtime subscriber and friend alerted me to this organization, Bottomless Closet, which supports low-income and/or in-need women in their goal to successfully search for, apply for, and get a job. Similar in some ways to the long-established and also essential Dress For Success, Bottomless Closet provides resume-writing assistance, mock-interviews with experienced volunteers, coaching, and, as is apparent from the titles of both organizations, a range of interview- and job-appropriate attire and accessories. I personally am very motivated to support women in the challenge of getting their work lives on track. Whatever you can donate -- time, skills, money, or clothing, please consider these opportunities. As we know, it is especially important at a time when women, particularly low income and/or women of color, have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic and may be facing greater levels of unemployment after it recedes.
Got more great resources to help women? Any articles, photos, or videos you think I need to see? Send to me if you have a moment. I am always seeking new sources to feed into this weekly digest about women in politics, the world, health, the arts, sports, and pop culture. Guaranteed discovery of something you didn't know before. Hard to do right now, but yes, also a semi-guaranteed laugh. Speaking of which, remember when I used to write funny anecdotes and stories about work, missing tennis shoes, and insane people on social media who correspond with me? Hopefully one day soon that will seem appropriate and not insanely out of touch.
On another note, I feel bad for people named Karen right now. I get it. It's good to have a shorthand for white entitlement, that "may I speak to your manager?" vibe which has itself become synonymous with bigotry and racism. But 'm sad to say that I think assigning all that is wrong in the world to one arbitrary moniker is not such a good idea. Too scary to think about people who are choosing other names with different ethnic roots or connotations and assigning negative attributes to every single person who happens to have that name. No good. Plus, of course, knowing good people named Karen, Caryn, Karyn, and Karin makes me want to defend them! One of them actually turned me on to the Bottomless Closet resource, coincidentally. Thank you, Karyn!
Back next week with more.

I'm both sorry (I miss him!) and glad (he'd be horrified!… as well as very old and susceptible) that my own father is not living through this time. Cheers to AZ.
With continuing Pride, respect, and allyship,
…'til next week,
LZ
New Yorkers: Primary Day is Tuesday 6/23. VOTE. Either by absentee ballot if you have one, or by early voting if you are in town today or tomorrow. Or Tuesday at your regular polling place. Get in the habit and VOTE VOTE VOTE. If you forgot to register for the primary or forgot to request an absentee ballot if you are out of town, that's okay. Just do it now or get one person in your social or family circle who isn't registered or who might be out of town to do it and you will have done your part. Be ready for November!

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
