Dear This Year's Faithful Readers and Subscribers,
Let's all many thousands of us together say, "So long, 2018." I, for one of the many thousands, am willing to say, good riddance. And welcome, 2019. In a year's time, I hope that the year will have been so good politically, socially, healthily, and prosperously, that we'll be begging you not to leave us so soon.
On a more prosaic note, after a beautiful week above the tree line on a glacier in France, here's my observation about my skiing capabilities: they're somewhat similar to my tennis bonafides.
I liken the green slopes to fun, but unchallenging, tennis opponents. I practice my technique, I place some risky bets because I know I can reign it back in. In essence, I expect to handily handle the situation.
The blues are my (unofficial) USTA 3.5 sweet spot. On a good day, everything's clicking. On another, the mind let's the body down (or vice versa) and I barely get the win.
Reds: Okay, you are better than me. But not by *that* much and, honestly, skiing you is the only way to get better. Some days I ski well enough to get invited back! Some days, I fear the mountain is not going to invite me to that end-of-season ski-ladies luncheon.
The Blacks, double-diamonds by any other name: I get it. I just got beat 6-0, lucky to win a point or go down trying.
There is something very luxurious about skiing in a foreign country. Maybe it's because there's no overpriced, crappy chili, or just the way it's pronounced in French, German, or Italian makes it taste better? In any case, I hope you had as nice a time at home, or away, or a combination of the two as we did in our several destinations, toute en famille.

The LZ Sunday Paperâ„¢ launched at the dawn of 2014. We expose and recirculate interesting content that is about, and frequently by, women in business, with a dose of ultra-relevant culture. We think that culture comes high and low, not much in between. Our audience is vast and not gender-driven. Every week we expect to deliver at least one good laugh. Send suggestions, clips, or names of people you think might enjoy this to LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.
