The "Bonfire" Edition

Dear Readers,

Happy July 4th Weekend!

And welcome to actual Summer, the wonderful month (in the Northeast) of (usually) sunny and (usually) not yet such humid days. We’ll see what Madame Climate Change has to say about that. She has been in such a bad mood lately, but will probably cheer up, now having been given free rein as the reigning Queen of the Atmosphere!

Today, I confess — I forgot what I was going to tell you. Mostly I think it’s a generally beach-induced loss of mental capacity. Add to that a late 50-something’s soupçon of not giving a s%*&, plus the pleasurable daze of houseguest- and dinner party-induced dishwasher packing and unpacking. Maybe I will think of whatever riveting subject it is again. And if I don’t, you’ll never know because I will think of something else.

Okay just to give you your money’s worth (oh wait, this is free!) I can report that I watched some good Fire Island content, the adorable and meaningful movie ‘Fire Island.’ I guess if you are queer, and want to have the same major rights, take marriage and filing joint taxes and being parents, you also have a right to be saddled by pop-culture tropes like RomComs! I, for one, will take a movie about cliques and haves & have-nots any day of the week. Especially a Friday night at the very same beach where the movie takes place.

Our specific town here is very similar to the one in the movie. In some ways. The classic, well-designed pine houses. The lush yet beachy flora along picturesque boardwalks. The Lyme tick-infested deer. And yet, there are some…distinctions. While a couple of editions back I did note that edibles and smoke-ables are common, if not near-ubiquitous, at various dinner parties and get-togethers, so far the K, X, poppers, et al, remain less so. Also the unprotected sex with random strangers in back rooms of clubs. But like I say— that’s only so far!

I hope you hook up with lots of my random articles, brought together in this hot tub of an edition of The LZ Sunday Paper. It is the week’s most important news by, for, and about women, delivered straight to your inbox. Politics, Pop Culture and everything in between. Every Sunday. Plus this week, you have an extra day to recover if you do happen to find yourself in a group situation you didn’t expect.
