The "Going Once, Going Twice" Edition
Dear Readers,
Oscar Pre-See Pro-Tip: If you haven’t yet seen the ultra talked-about and likely to win Best Foreign Film and maybe Best Screenplay (don’t know how many academy members read Norwegian, but…), ‘The Worst Person In The World,’ please note that this Norwegian Film is the third in what is being called The Oslo Trilogy. Few seem to be aware of that factoid. You might enjoy ‘Worst Person’—which is being billed as a romantic comedy?— even more if you watched the other two. Which, by the way, are distinctly not Rom-Com but also not entirely unfunny, brooding coming-of age stories. I won’t tell you which one is my favorite. Those who know me and have seen all three, let’s have our own little mini-pre-Oscar Poll and you tell me which I liked best:
Part 1: ‘Reprise’ — 2006 — talk about hilarity: Roger Ebert, RIP and FYI, gives it 2 Stars.
B. ‘Oslo: August 31st: A Long Day In A Grey Hour’ — 2012 — A Thumbs Up from Roger Ebert! Others have a more nuanced take. While the lead actor is in all three films who happens to be an ultra-compelling genius, note that the Cannes-Best-Actress-Winning Renate Reinsve for ‘Worst’, makes her debut in this one.
C. ‘Worst Person In The World’ — 2022 — Rom-Com may be a mis-classification but this is life and death, love and life on display. Also, who doesn’t love a “I quit acting the day before I got a call for my life-changing role (and, for a 2022 twist) became a Louis Vuitton Brand Ambassador” story?
I look forward to receiving your Which Does LZ Like The Most ballots!
