The "If It's Belgium..." Issue
Readers,
Enjoy this slightly Tardy For The Sunday issue of the Newsletter.
I am scrambling to get to the airport for what is basically a work trip sandwich. Two usual work stints at either end of the trip but a thin slice of Gouda, or perhaps a cube of Edam will be had in Amsterdam, where I’m stopping off to see the (supposedly marvelous but unbelievably crowded) Vermeer exhibit.
I will be back to you week hopefully next week. I gotta go sort out find my European power converters, scrounge up my Euros, and head out.
There is certainly a lot going on. So here’s the not-yet-jetlagged news of the week— Politics, Business, Health, Pop Culture, The Arts, Sports, and more. Just for you, from me, curated with care and a very distinct point of view.
If you aren’t already a subscriber, you should be.
If you have a story you think I may have missed or something to share with me, please still do, at LZSundayPaper@gmail.com.

Thank you, contributors! I really appreciate this week’s offerings. Especially this one that took the form of a correction of my sub-par insect knowledge:
Subscriber Janet W. properly let me know that I myself had a horrible instance of unconscious gender bias last week. I wrote, ”Ants, for me, are like, oh I will just brush this ant off my fruit and everything is fine (okay it’s more like I will smush this ant in a tissue and throw him away).” She let me know that the fact of the ant matter is that “worker ants, like worker bees, are female. The only duty of male ants is to mate with the queen.” She was also extremely generous, saying “Other than giving male insects more credit than they deserve, your weekly letter is terrific.”
I apologize to every hard-working female ant who is likely marching on my countertops at the beach and I thank every careful and supportive reader I have.
Happy May!
LZ
