The "Run-Up to the Run-Up" Edition
Folks,
Happy 70+ degrees weekend in New York City and environs.
I promised a media review:
Let’s start with theater, if you’re in bonus weekend NYC:
McNeal—folks are hating on it, but I loved seeing Robert Downey, Jr. and moreover happened to see the play, which is somewhat about his life and ego being stoked by winning a Nobel Prize for literature, on the day after the Nobel Prize for literature was handed out. But also it’s a family drama. But what isn’t, am I right?
Square between the eyes family drama: The Hills Of California. Also worth seeing, bigtime! It could also be called, Gypsy meets TLC’s Stage Moms, or “Whose Trauma Is It, Anyway?”
Film:
Must see: — don’t pooh pooh me— The Substance! It went all the way. Carrie meets The Elephant Man. Or rather, meets A Different Man— also in theaters (Sebastian Stan, about to be in the Trump movie) is the A Different Man. Best double feature I have seen in a while (okay, I saw them a day apart but still…) and I would like to write an honors thesis on the semiotics of gender, otherness, aging, and the sense of self.
Must not see:— Megaflopolis. I am sorry to say that Francis (Ford Coppola) should not have sold a stake in his vinyards for this film. It felt like a very old person made it and it is not relevant. It’s not underappreciated, like his kind of genius film One From The Heart or his super specific Tucker: A Man and His Dream. Those are great and his masterpieces are many, but this one just made me sad.
But mostly I forgot that October is baseball month so that is a big commitment when both New York teams are in.
More next week. Counting down to voting. Do you have your day-of plan? Your early ballot?
Two more editions til Election Day. — is there going to be any other news except politics? What about the LZ Sunday Paper’s quest for stories you probably missed, business, crime & punishment, health, the arts, and pop culture. Let’s see.

See you next week — seeing alot more this week— will report back.
Go Yankees and yes, even though Mayor Adams got SLAMMED for wearing his dual fan baseball cap, I’ll say it, Go Mets! But only because I want a subway series.
