The "Time Is Of The Essence" Edition
Greetings from across the proverbial Pond —
Remember Alanis Morissette and the the debate around the word ‘ironic’ after her big hit video from 1996? Like *is* rain on your wedding day actually ironic?
Well let me know if you think this qualifies: we took off for Ireland late Friday late night, arriving mighty fresh and ready to greet the day — not — at 7am or so, feeling lucky that the time difference was only 4 hours because the U.S. went on daylight savings time but Ireland and the UK had not. We pushed through just fine, enjoying the left-hand drive with manual transmission— that kept me awake! And a rare sunny, 70-degree day, driving north, eating delicious food, seeing incredible sites, then we went to bed good and tired, a bit worried about what usually happens which is I just stay up too late despite the fatigue and I sleep way later than I wanted to on the first morning if a work meeting doesn’t get me up. And just then it popped into my head that the desk clerk reminded us on the way up that — tonight ! — is their conversion to Daylight Savings so that we — sigh — “lose” an hour which is bad because we’re up even later and, worse, sleep an hour later, and feel that extra jet lag for another day, albeit with a later beautiful sunset. Now, isn’t that ironic?
I’m beat — so the good news is that due to the extra time difference, I can be awake and actually finish this thing off Sunday morning instead of Saturday night! And you can get up at a reasonable hour and read all of these amazing articles by, for, and about women, delivered straight to your inbox. Politics, Business, Culture, The Arts, Sports, and more.
