The "TKO" Edition
Dear Subscribers,
Last week I was really busy so I didn’t publish the newsletter. In fact I was so busy, apparently, that I got a raging case of Covid. I’m sorry to all the people at the Armory Salon Concert last Tuesday night. If I had known that I would wake up Wednesday wishing I was dead I definitely would have skipped the concert.
Many of you will recall that I had Covid in December of 2020, pre-vax. Tested negative, got on a plane to LA, got off the plane, didn’t feel fab. Tested positive. I got through that, not great, but okay. Believe it or not I can’t even remember if I’ve had it again in the interim. I don’t think so. It gets to be a blur in a family of five with other close family and friends testing positive and/or feeling sick in a somewhat steady stream over the past three years.
Anyway, I realized that feeling like I couldn’t live one more second feeling the way I did was an unusual one for me. I don’t check out of many daily activities or commitments too easily. So I had the rational-at-the-time “I don’t care if I get the Covid rebound, I just can’t feel this way” and went on Paxlovid. It started to work within about 12-24 hours. I’m still feeling a bit poorly. So, don’t let anyone say “don’t worry about getting it, it’s just like a little cold—I barely even noticed.” Well I guess they can say it if it was true for them but I’m here to tell you, you just don’t know what you’ll feel like!
Final fun fact: yes, I had gotten my booster the week before, thinking cleverly that I was timing the max resistance to buildi up in time for me to go on an extended West Coast trip. Well, that didn’t happen.
Three years later, same trip, same disease. Better cure. But still — Boo. And not a Halloween Boo, either. That’ll be next week’s edition.
I’m real tired so I’ll send you on to this week’s Covid-free edition of all the news by, for, and about women in the news, from politics to pop culture and everything in between.

See you next week, still not from L.A., and hopefully with a bit more pep in my step.
