The "Paper Money" Edition
Dear Readers,
If it’s December, it must be my annual countdown-slash-C’rush™ towards the Holiday Break. That’s my LZ-Patented rush-to-Christmas. With or without a full-time, big-ass corporate job, every day seems to be a pile of to-do’s before year end. And most nights are filled! With (mostly) fun stuff, mind you, but also post-Covid business parties and client dinners are back. Compared to my usual nightlife rhythm of virtually nil, it feels like I’m a veritable nightlife reporter. Every December I think I am briefly reincarnated as Michael Musto. How did we ever do it?
Everyone likes content recomms! So here’s a few more in addition to last week’s:
TV: Okay, in the Late To The Party Category: Yes, Slow Horses on Apple TV+. Everybody loves it. Now I (kind of) do, too. I missed seasons 1 and 2 entirely. Watched 2. Highly recommend! It’s both extremely compelling (great characters! you want to know what happens next!) and also confusing (lots of spies, lots of crossing and double-crossing, and in Season 2, lots of confusing evil Russians. Well they’re not confusing but their names are.) Season 3 so far (drops weekly) superb! Downloaded Season 1 for long plane trips this week.
Film: Anatomy of a Fall. I really thought this was a fabulous, tense, want to know what’s-gonna-happen examination of a set of relationships. Oh and a courtroom drama. Whenever the acting is great the word “superb” somehow gets deployed. It was superb in that department. I have thought about it nearly every day since I saw it.
Museum: If you’re in NYC any time through mid-January, the Judy Chicago Show at the New Museum is worth seeing. An uncanny breadth of work is on display. I was excited to see her abstract expressionist art which never got its fair share of attention. I appreciated deeply her later era, more explicitly political work. The films and videos were especially fantastic. This review sums up my reactions and has great photos of her work.
Busy week a-comin’. Busy day a-comin’ for you, if you read everything I have to offer. The best and most important news of the week— for, by, and about women. From Politics to Pop Culture. Get busy!
